Capcom’s latest Street Fighter 6 rule change spells chaos for Hitbox users – here’s why

Image
This morning, Capcom announced a change to its rules regarding the upcoming Street Fighter 6 Capcom World Tour. This change, a seemingly simple rule regarding direction inputs, may have a widespread impact on not just Street Fighter 6, but the fighting game scene as a whole. Don't close the tab, I'm serious! As it stands, several players woke up to find their go-to controller transformed into a $200 paperweight overnight. It's all kind-of complicated, so let's go through the current situation surrounding Street Fighter, hitboxes, fighting games, and what's perceived as 'cheating' in the world of light punches, medium punches, and (dare I say) heavy punches, too. To start, Capcom announced via Twitter this morning that a change to its rules on leverless controllers has been made, directing those interested to an official blog post on the matter . A new rule has been added, and it's quite simple: if up and down directions are inputted at the same tim...

EA "restructuring" sees 6% of total staff losing their job

Image
EA has laid off roughly 6% of its total staff, the latest in a series of industry-wide cuts as both gaming and tech as a whole show signs of struggling. This information comes from the EA website, where a statement by CEO Andrew Wilson has been posted to the public following its initial rounds to staff. The statement starts with assuring employees that EA is operating from "a position of strength", before addressing news of the layoffs. "As we drive greater focus across our portfolio, we are moving away from projects that do not contribute to our strategy, reviewing our real estate footprint, and restructuring some of our teams," writes Wilson. "These decisions are expected to impact approximately six percent of our company’s workforce. This is the most difficult part, and we are working through the process with the utmost care and respect." Read more from VG247 Latest Articles Feed https://ift.tt/A2lQ8uF via IFTTT

Parasite Eve has the energy that Square Enix needs to bring to new IP in 2023

Image
Is Square Enix on the cusp of a new golden age, or is it still swimming upstream? Right now, it’s honestly hard to tell. On one hand, Final Fantasy 16 looks absolutely balls-to-the-wall incredible. You’ve also got the company putting out a wide variety of games that really play to its strengths. There’s much-anticipated remasters like Chrono Cross , Crisis Core , and Live A Live . There’s series continuations and revivals for the likes of Valkyrie, SaGa, and Star Ocean. And there’s fascinating new bets ranging from the nichely obscure like Voice of Cards and Paranormasight to interesting new takes on some of the concepts the company is best known for, like Harvestella and Diofield Chronicle . On the flip side, it seems barely anybody played a lot of these games. Some of them launched with little fanfare; it was easy to miss that something like Star Ocean: The Divine Force had even released. But the quality and breadth is a badge of honor, at least. As a buddy of mine argued, eve...

Naughty Dog to continue developing games for PC, as well as PS5

Image
First spotted by the folk over at GamesRadar , Naughty Dog has stated that it is not done with developing games for PC. The Last of Us Part 1, which released on PC just yesterday, will not be the last PC title we see from the developer. To celebrate the launch of the game on PC, Naughty Dog shared a blog post that featured plenty of titbits of interesting information regarding The Last of Us Part 1’s port. “Following UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection’s PC release, we focused our efforts and learnings onto the PC version of The Last of Us Part 1. Behind the scenes, we worked towards ensuring that The Last of Us Part 1 would be an authentic, satisfying experience for those playing on PC,” the blog begins. Resident Evil 4 Remake sells three million units in its first two days

Image
Continuing the ongoing trend of Resident Evil remakes is the remake most of us have all — quite clearly — been waiting for, and that’s the Resident Evil 4 Remake . A beloved cult classic that sees rookie cop Leon Kennedy become a matured, fully-fledged agent of navigating never-ending chaos, launched just last week. Since then, Capcom has revealed that the Resident Evil 4 Remake managed to sell over three million units in its first two days. Let’s not also forget that this remake has also set the Resident Evil franchise’s new concurrent user record on Steam . Needless to say, this remake of the 2005 GameCube title has gone down an absolute treat among both critics and fans alike, myself included. Go check out my review ! How Sherlock Holmes, slick 3D graphics, and Switch exclusivity sets the ambitious Rain Code apart

Image
Torrential rain hammered down on the Moscone Centre throughout the first few days of this year’s GDC . Just when I thought I was free from the downpour I found it again in a Spike Chunsoft interview room on the subterranean expo floor. There Kazutaka Kodaka (formerly the lead writer on the Danganrompa series), a translator, and a handful of staff would take me through his latest project: Master Detectives Archive: Rain Code . Set in a “neon noir” city constantly hammered by rainfall, you play as a detective tasked with solving a variety of peculiar murders with aid from a cast of other master detectives, each with their own distinct look, quirks, and special abilities. It’s your job to wash away the mystery and soak in clues, all while drenched in that distinct style longtime fans will recognise from the Danganrompa series. Kodaka, via a translator, told me he has been reading detective novels since he was a child, explaining his interest in the kind of detective fiction present in...

Nintendo is showing off 10 minutes of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom gameplay tomorrow

Image
Nintendo is hosting a small Direct completely focused on showing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom gameplay tomorrow. Kicking off tomorrow, March 28 at 3pm BST/ 4pm CEST/ 10am ET/, Nintendo will show off about 10 minutes of Tears of the Kingdom gameplay on the company's YouTube channel . It will be hosted by, unsurprisingly, series producer Eiji Aonuma. This marks the first time that Nintendo will actually show off the game in action, rather than through what appears to have been camera angles the final game won't actually use. As is par for the course with Nintendo, the announcement didn't share much more than that, so you'll have to tune in to actually get a look at what's what for yourself. Back in February's Nintendo Direct, we got another look at the game that offered a bit more of a comprehensive taste of what kind of gameplay features we can expect from the upcoming sequel. It showed new things like what appears to be customisable vehicles, ...

The Layers of Fear remake will not have that baby running into a wall

Image
The infamous scene of a ghost baby running full speed into a wall from the original Layers of Fear will not be in the upcoming series remake. This comes via Damian Kocurek, creative director at Anshar Studios, the studio handling the remake in collaboration with Bloober Team. He sat down to chat about the game with me at the tail end of GDC this week. The game, a frankly impressive Unreal Engine 5 remake of both Layers of Fear 1 and 2 (with some brand new content as well) has received slight changes to minor parts of the game. Yes, this includes the baby wipeout, which was removed as it "doesn't fit with what we are trying to do in that particular part of the game." With Ash's story wrapped up, Pokemon: Horizons will keep the anime rolling

Image
Ash's time in the Pokemon anime has finally come to an end in Japan, and a trailer for the new series, Pokemon Horizons, sets up the adventures to come. We've known for a while now that Ash Ketchum, our beloved protagonist who caught barely any Pokemon, would no longer be the protagonist of the Pokemon anime. The final episode of Pokemon Journeys: The Series (the full title of the last season) has aired in Japan, bringing Ash's story to a close, and likely a teary eye to many who grew up with the world's best Pokemon trainer . But there's a new generation of trainers that will lead the Pokemon anime, and there's a new trailer showing the next series off properly for the first time. Pokemon Horizons: The Series is set to debut this year, and will focus on a pair of new protagonists, Liko and Roy. Eagle-eyed fans already noticed that Liko's hair clip resembles Ash's insignia on his original cap, leading some to question if there's some kind of a co...

Bungie pays tribute to Lance Reddick, sharing the actor has "performances yet to come"

Image
Following the passing of actor Lance Reddick, Bungie has shared that there are still "performances yet to come," in Destiny 2 . Last week came the unfortunate news that Reddick had passed away , having appeared in a number of beloved series like The Wire, John Wick, Fringe, Guerilla Games' pair of Horizon games, and notably as Commander Zavala in the Destiny series. Live service games are obviously a living, breathing thing, meaning that there are regular updates, often with more pieces of story. In a recent blog post from Bungie, the developer shared a tribute to Reddick, and noted that there are still performances of his to come in Destiny 2. "As the voice of Commander Zavala—the stalwart commander of the Vanguard—Lance brought to life a character who has become virtually synonymous with Destiny itself," reads the post. "For nearly a decade, Guardians around the world have found purpose and comfort in Zavala’s presence, bolstered by that unmistakable ...

Diablo 4 - Druid Animal Spirits Guide

Every playable class in Diablo 4 has a unique mechanic that is specific to them. The Rogues have Specializations , the Sorcerers have Enchantments , and so on. In regard to the Druid, players will have access to the Animal Spirits mechanic. While this mechanic is not playable in the Diablo 4 beta, we have enough of an understanding of Animal Spirits to describe it in-depth and predict how it will play out in the full game. Diablo 4 Druid Animal Spirits mechanic To start, the Animal Spirits system builds off of the Druid's ability to shapeshift into a wolf or bear and also have animals as companions. However, with Animal Spirits, players will be able to pick one of four different spirits at a time. The Animal Spirit they pick will offer them unique bonuses, which are called Boons in Diablo 4. There's no word on what the Animal Spirits will be yet or what each of their Boons will be. Players could see an increase in their elemental damage, have their animal companions become...

Witchfire gameplay demonstration shows off the power of spellcraft

Image
Witchfire, the gothic roguelite first-person shooter from Polish indie developers The Astronauts, was recently shown off during the Future Games Show Spring Showcase. Featuring commentary from senior game designer Karol Krok, the video displays the different types of spellcraft available to witch hunters. These include spells, hexes, and curses which can be used upon enemies. The wide variety of spellcraft available to the witch hunters is just as important as their arsenal of guns, and both will be crucial while wandering the Land of the Witch. Dark and Darker pulled from Steam due to cease and desist from Nexon

Image
Ironmace, the developer of fantasy FPS dungeon PvPvE adventure Dark and Darker , has pulled the game's page off Steam. The developers have run into issues of late with industry giant Nexon going after the studio. Apparently, one of the developers used to work at the company and is accused of stealing assets and code which Nexon claims are being used in Dark and Darker. Two weeks ago, Ironmace was served a search warrant by Korean police, who searched the offices and seized material related to the game. According to the developers, the investigation process was quick, and nothing in the form of stolen assets or code was found. VG247's The Best Games Ever Podcast – Ep.44: The best game where you'd swap places with the main character

Image
Welcome to VG247's Best Games Ever Podcast: Episode 44: The best game where you'd swap places with the main character. You’d think that swapping lives with any video game protagonist would be preferable to continuing as a regular ol’ human in the real world. After all, we don’t have magic, or spaceships, or unfettered access to military grade ordinance. But most video game protagonists have to live through things that the vast majority of us would need years of therapy to process. Monster attacks. Wars. Alien invasions. Having to go on dates. Still: plenty of game protagonists get to do nice things, like driving boats or growing turnips. So, who would our regular panellists swap places with if they could? In order to find out, you’ll have to listen to this podcast, which is pretty handy, because there are several ways of doing that which we have generously listed below. So get it dealt with and check out this week's VG247's Best Games Ever Podcast, the only podcast ...

Resident Evil 4 Remake's Mercenaries mode will release in April

Image
Today is the day many of us have been waiting for, with Resident Evil 4 Remake now being out in the wilderness and available to play! Capcom has shared a shiny new launch trailer with fans, which also details when we can expect RE4’s Mercenaries mode to become available. For those not familiar with Mercenaries, it’s a game mode that’s often present in Resident Evil titles, which has you facing off against a horde. The goal? To kill as many gruesome enemies as possible before they kill you, or before the timer runs out. Dropped during Resident Evil 4 Remake’s launch trailer, players can expect to be able to jump in to the beloved Mercenaries' mode on April 7 . As has been the case in the past, you will most likely need to have completed the game at least once to then unlock the mode. Playing Diablo 4 this weekend? Expect "unprecedented traffic and queues"

Image
If you’re planning on jumping into Diablo 4 ’s open beta weekend today, Blizzard has detailed exactly what players should expect, and it’s “unprecedented queue times and traffic”. It’s not great for those eager to jump into the game, that’s for sure, but I can’t say that I expected any less from Blizzard. In a post to the Blizzard forums , community manager PezRadar first says thank you to those who have participated in the Early Access beta. “They allow us to test things at a scale that we cannot test on our own, like server capacity, class balance, usability, accessibility, etc.” He then continues by saying Blizzard intends to learn a lot more during this open beta weekend, and establishes expectations for players. The first is queue times. Read more from VG247 Latest Articles Feed https://ift.tt/YRO8S4P via IFTTT

Destiny 2's PvP Mode Is Getting Overhauled Later This Season

Lightfall and Season of Defiance have introduced a number of PvE changes to Destiny 2 , and after several weeks of fine-tuning that experience, Bungie is looking to update the PvP side of the game. In a new blog post , Bungie explained that it plans to introduce "meaningful" changes to activities and their reward structures, including updates to matchmaking, adjustments to the Competitive Division, and introducing new game modes. Several updates to map and game mode weighting are already live, and a mid-season update will see new connection-based matchmaking and a Crucible rotator added. Crucible Relentless Rotator will see Clash, Rift, and Zone Control rotated into play on a weekly basis, while Crucible Party Rotator will offer Mayhem, Scorched, and Momentum Control modes for players to switch between every week. As for the maps that these modes will be available on, expect to spend more time on Javelin-4, The Burnout, Rusted Lands, Midtown, and Wormhaven, as these arenas w...

Finally, you can lather up in Mario and Luigi's cream

Image
In an announcement that lead to an array of inappropriate puns in the team’s Slack this morning (via Vooks ), LUSH is collaborating with the Super Mario Bros. Movie to bring fans a collection of Mario-related bath and shower products. Simply put, you can now level up your lavation with Luigi’s liquids. Also, Mario, Bowser, and Peach’s own scents, if you fancy. If you ever wanted to rub a little bit of Mario and co. across your body, this collection has you covered. As is the case with any Lush collaboration (see: LUSH x One Piece ), all the items available are limited. Meaning that once they’re gone, they’re gone, and you know what fans of LUSH can be like! Elden Ring's long promised ray tracing support finally arrives, but there's some bad news

Image
FromSoftware released a major new Elden Ring patch earlier this morning on all platforms. Servers have gone down for three hours for extended maintenance, but the real news is in what the patch brings to the game. Proper patch notes have just been published. The headline change, of course, is the arrival of ray tracing. As pointed out by Souls modder Lance McDonald on Twitter, patch 1.09 officially adds ray tracing support to the game. So far, it's only confirmed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. The patch is considerably bigger on PS5, coming in at 5GB, compared to PC's slim 200MB. Redfall Could Drop Its Always-Online Requirement For Single-Player, But It's Not Guaranteed

Redfall might drop its always-online requirement for its single-player mode. Game director Harvey Smith told Eurogamer that developer Arkane is "working actively" to drop the requirement, but nothing is confirmed at this stage. Smith said there are people who live in places and have circumstances where they cannot guarantee a consistent and stable internet connection. "There are people who live in places where there are outages or their broadband is shitty, or they're competing with their family members, because their mum's streaming a movie or their brother's on another device. And so I think it is a legitimate critique," Smith said. The developer confirmed that Arkane has already begun work to "address this in the future," but whether or not the always-online requirement ever gets dropped for good remains to be seen. "We have to do some things like encrypt your save games and do a bunch of UI work to support it. And so we are looking...

Stalker, Far Cry 2, and, well, Arkane: Redfall proudly wears its most obvious influences on its bloody sleeve

Image
Arkane has a problem. Its games, by all accounts, are great. The Dishonored series, Prey, Deathloop – they all review well. Arkane, for generations now, has been a favourite of critics and developer peers. But that acclaim and clout does not translate into sales (or player count, if you’re taking services like Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus into account). Deathloop’s sales were the lowest of any Arkane game at the time it launched on PS5, at least in the physical market. Prey fared only slightly better – and that was a multiplatform release. Redfall, then, is in a unique position. Arriving on Xbox Game Pass, day and date, means that around 29 million people will be able to boot up the game and immerse themselves in its vampire fantasy at launch. Without asking for a £60+ buy-in, without asking players to gamble what may be their quarterly game budget on an as-yet-unproven new IP, Arkane can finally show the mainstream what it’s capable of. And Redfall , from what I’ve played so far, s...

Counter Strike 2 fans are using trigonometry to work out a release date

Image
Counter Strike: Global Offensive fans are going all in on a new logo shared to Twitter in the hopes of uncovering a release date. What does ‘going all in’ entail, however? Trigonometry. Too much of it for my liking. First reported by the folk over at The Loadout , and following rumours of a Counter Strike sequel that emerged earlier this month, Valve recently updated the banner for the CS:GO Twitter page with an all-new logo. The logo appears to be in preparation for the revamped shooter title, which, according to journalist Richard Lewis when speaking with VGC , is “right around the corner.” The new logo is pretty similar to CS:GO’s original logo, but omits the ‘GO’ part. Rather than the letters ‘CS’ and ‘GO’ being separated by an operator, we only have ‘C’ and ‘S’ separated by an operator now. Additionally, the new logo’s text is at a slight, diagonal tilt, and dons a blue background. Read more from VG247 Latest Articles Feed https://ift.tt/riujgR4 via IFTTT

An in-person fan event dedicated to Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption video game series will take place this July in Arizona. It's called Tombstone Redemption , and it will be held July 29-30 in Tombstone, Arizona, a historic mining town also known for the big shootout at O.K. Corral. Palmer (Bill Williamson), and Meeya Davis (Tilly Jackson). The event's website has three blank spaces left on its Guests page , suggesting there will be at least three additional actor announcements to come. Resident Evil 4 Remake's anime spin-off gets a second episode

Image
As we all prepare for the release of Resident Evil 4 Remake on Friday, Capcom is gearing us up with an array of short, minute-long anime episodes promoting the game. Today, we were privy to a second episode! The first episode of the show — coined ‘Leon and the Mysterious Village’ — debuted just a few days ago . The episode showed off a very confused Leon’s descent into the village, and later, his ascent into the stars with a bunch of Colmillos as he dies. It was bizarre, but honestly, very wholesome. Today, Capcom launched a second episode of the show on YouTube , animated by the popular studio, Nippon Animation. Running at just 54 seconds, this episode is titled ‘A promise between the two’, and it summed up my thoughts of the game perfectly. Xbox Game Pass Is Losing 7 More Games On March 31

As it normally does twice per month, Microsoft is removing additional titles from the Xbox Game Pass library at the end of March. There are seven titles leaving Game Pass on March 31. One of these is MLB The Show 22, which is leaving the catalog just a few days after the newest entry in the series, MLB The Show 23, arrives on Game Pass on March 28. Other games leaving on March 31 include Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, Kraken Academy, Double Dragon Neon, ClusterTruck, Chinatown Detective Agency, and A Memoir Blue. As usual, Game Pass members save 20% on all games when buying them outright, so that's a silver lining for anyone who wants to keep playing any of these titles when they leave the catalog. Microsoft removed eight titles from Game Pass on March 15, including Goat Simulator and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, bringing the total number of removals in March to 15. In terms of additions, six games were added in the first half of March and three more are coming ...

Judge Agrees Microsoft Might Not Keep Its Promises But Dismisses Gamers' Lawsuit Trying To Block Activision Sale

A judge has dismissed a class-action lawsuit brought forth by regular everyday gamers that was attempting to block Microsoft's proposed purchase of Activision Blizzard and the Call of Duty series. District judge Jacqueline Scott Corley handed down judgment on Monday , saying the plaintiffs failed to make their case based on the rule of law. "The complaint does not plausibly allege the merger creates a reasonable probability of anticompetitive effects in any relevant market," Corley said. The judge took issue with alleged concerns that Microsoft's buyout would have "anticompetitive effects" by making games like Call of Duty exclusive to Microsoft platforms. "While plaintiffs allege Microsoft might obtain the ability to make Activision's games exclusive, and they assert Microsoft would have an incentive to do so, they do not make any factual allegations that support the conclusory incentive assertion. Why would Microsoft make Call of Duty exclusiv...

"It's at full speed everywhere" - AI specialists tell all during King GDC roundtable

Image
"It's at full speed everywhere" stated Danny Lange, senior vice president of AI and machine learning at Unity. He did so at the front of a packed room of games developers during a roundtable on " The Future of AI " at GDC earlier today. Sitting next to him was consultant Mark Deloura from Level Up Games, director Peter Wurman from Sony AI America, head of creative Paul Stephanouk from. He, alongside chief technology officer at King Steve Collins, would go on to present their thoughts on the impact AI will (and already has) had on video game development. They came to a consensus: AI will have a tectonic effect on video game development, altering the nature of day-to-day workings and creativity within the industry. The presentation itself had to be re-worked in the months leading up the the roundtable according to Collins, due to the waves software like Chat GPT was making. Phil Spencer Talks Xbox Mobile Store Planned For 2024

Microsoft's mobile games store could launch as early as next year, the company's head of gaming Phil Spencer has said. Thanks to the new Digital Markets Act--legislation that forces Apple and Google to allow users on its platforms to access apps from sources other than the App Store and Google Play Store--Spencer believes that this will create a "huge opportunity" for Xbox. "The Digital Markets Act that's coming--those are the kinds of things that we are planning for," Spencer said in an interview with The Financial Times (via VGC ). "I think it's a huge opportunity. We want to be in a position to offer Xbox and content from both us and our third-party partners across any screen where somebody would want to play. Today, we can't do that on mobile devices but we want to build towards a world that we think will be coming where those devices are opened up." Signed into law back in September 2022 by the European Market, the Digital Marke...

Destiny 2 SMGs Aren't Getting Nerfed, But Other Weapons Are Getting Buffed Soon

A mid-season patch is coming soon to Destiny 2 , and while it has been rumored that submachine guns will have less of an impact in PvE after the update goes live, Bungie says that the weapon archetype isn't being nerfed. Instead, the developer is looking to buff other weapon classes in the patch and will adjust some SMGs with "PvP-focused" changes. "We've got a balance pass coming for primary weapons in PvE in the mid-season patch," Bungie tweeted. "That doesn't include nerfing SMGs, which is something we're seeing a lot of talk about. Just to clarify some of the comments: We are not nerfing SMGs in PvE to bring them into parity with other weapons, we are buffing other weapons. We will be addressing Ikelos and Tarrabah separately with PvP-focused changes." Happy Friday! We're seeing some convo about weapon changes. We've got a balance pass coming for primary weapons in PvE in the mid-Season patch. That doesn't include nerfin...

Valve is reportedly working on a ‘game notes’ system for Steam

Image
First reported by the folk over at PCGamer , it appears that Steam users may be able to take ‘game notes’ via the gaming platform in future. SteamDB Creator and dataminer Pavel Djundik shared the discovery to Twitter , saying that game notes “will be available in the Steam library, and on the web.” A ‘game notes’ system could, really, be anything. However, what most of us imagine is a way to easily take notes while playing a game, without the need to necessarily tab out. Think to when you’re bringing up the Steam overlay to invite a friend to a game, but you have your own personal notepad, too. Of course, that’s simply my own insinuation as to what a ‘game notes’ system could consist of. It might be entirely different, and it might not happen at all. If it was introduced, I know it would definitely make my time solving puzzles in an array of games much easier. No longer will I be scrambling to find a working pen and blank sticky-note to jot down that code or dialogue combination. R...

Check out Resident Evil 4 Remake’s short but sweet anime trailer

Image
It’s safe to say that Capcom’s marketing for Resident Evil 4 Remake is well under way. After a horde of stellar reviews were shared last week, declaring the remake a complete success ( our own 5/5 review included ), Capcom has more under its sleeve to get players excited. Capcom, of course, knows full well the chokehold that Resident Evil 4 has over its fans, both old and new. As such, a short, but sweet anime trailer for the game has been released showing off fan-favourite characters in a more charming, whimsical scenario (thanks, Kotaku ). It certainly makes that quiet, parasite-ridden Spanish village look a lot more inviting. This anime trailer comes with a lengthy title — ‘Resident Evil 4 Anime PV Resident Evil Masterpiece Theater - “Leon and the Mysterious Village” EP 1’ — and a short, 56 second run-time, and is well worth the minute of your time. European Commission postpones decision on approving Activision Blizzard acquisition until May 22

Image
The European Commission will decide on whether to approve or deny Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard on May 22. Originally scheduled for April, the decision was delayed so that the commission is able to review more feedback from Microsoft's rivals and customers before deciding one way or the other, per Reuters . This will also give Microsoft time to offer its games and Activision Blizzard titles to other services. It most recently made a deal with streaming companies Boosteroid and Ubitus which will see games from both companies arrive on the services. Atlas Fallen has great combat and that joyous single-A energy

Image
Atlas Fallen is exactly the sort of game I need right now. I don’t quite know how to explain why that is other than to get slightly reductive, so indulge me: it’s got big, glorious A-tier energy. Not triple-A. Just A . And sometimes, that’s all you need. Now, before I get into my brief time with a preview build of Atlas Fallen in earnest, a caveat. Previewing games is always difficult. It’s not easy to form an opinion on an unfinished product in a very short amount of time - but let me tell you, it’s even more difficult when you run into technical issues. This has been my experience with Atlas Fallen. This happens with early builds all the time, so it’s not really a matter of alarm bells. Oftentimes, especially where I played on PC, it’s about weird driver and hardware mismatches, the sorts of things that get mopped up as a game nears release. So when I played Atlas Fallen, I experienced a not-insignificant number of crashes to desktop. But I kept going - kept playing, kept reloadi...

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League Will Not Drop Live-Service Elements, Report Says

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has reportedly been delayed , but fans hoping that developer Rocksteady will ditch the game's live-service elements should not get their hopes up. Posting on Twitter, reporter Jason Schreier provided some new insight on his previous report about the game's supposed delay. He said Rocksteady hasn't come forward to officially announce the delay possibly because no new date has been chosen. Schreier said staff were informed weeks ago that Kill the Justice League was shifting to later in 2023, but it remains possible the game could move to 2024. Amid all the unknowns, Schreier said there is one thing that appears to be clear, and that's how "the core game isn't changing." This seemingly pertains to how Kill the Justice League is an online, live-service game that requires a constant internet connection, even for its single-player mode. Rocksteady has not yet announced the Suicide Squad delay, perhaps because there...

VG247's The Best Games Ever Podcast – Ep.43: The best game that takes ten or more hours to get good

Image
Welcome to VG247's Best Games Ever Podcast: Episode 43 - The best game that takes ten or more hours to get good. Let's face it: games are too long these days. I'm over 160 hours into Assassin's Creed Valhalla and I still haven't finished the bloody thing. But, perhaps worse than games that outstay their welcome are games that don't even get to the good part until you've put in a few shifts. The post child for this phenomenon is, of course, Final Fantasy XIII, a game which infamously funnels you down a narrow corridor for 30 or so gruelling hours before depositing you into a beautiful open world area for the game's penultimate act. Alex described it beautifully in this week's podcast as a sewage pipe that leads to an ocean. But, surprising everyone, Final Fantasy XIII wasn't actually his pick for this topic. To find that out, you'd best listen to it. It's fortunate then that there are several ways to do so on this very web page. So stra...

Redfall story trailer explains how the town became overrun with vampires

Image
Bethesda and Arkane Austin have released a story trailer for Redfall that tells the tale of how vampires came to rule over the sleepy Massachusetts island town. After a failed scientific experiment at Aevum HQ, a legion of vampires invaded the town and cut it off from the outside world. Since the experiment changed some folks into vampires, people have gone missing; dead bodies and blood are everywhere; the sun has been eclipsed; and vampires rule the town as gods. Redfall Story Trailer Hints At Corporate Parasites Being Responsible For Vampire Apocalypse

Ahead of its release in May, a new story trailer for Redfall has gone live. Previous trailers have shared only a few details about the Vampire invasion that has rolled into town. Scientists working on a "world-shattering" project at Aeveum headquarters might be partly to blame for the terror that has befallen Redfall, which has resulted in the sun being permanently eclipsed, people going missing, and the town being painted red. Literally. "Delve into the dark history of the sinister company that created the monsters stalking the streets and face off against the terrifyingly powerful vampires that some survivors worship as gods," Bethesda's synopsis for Redfall reads. Developed by Deathloop and Dishonored studio Arkane, Redfall lets you take control of one of four specialists who all wield unique skills in their fight against the undead hordes and their human minions. Jacob Boyer is a long-range expert who can turn invisible, Devinder Crousely uses various g...

Nintendo Switch Online adds Kirby's Dream Land 2, XEVIOUS, and more

Image
There are plenty of classics to pick from across Nintendo Switch Online , but March’s update to the service has seen four more games introduced for the SNES, NES, and Game Boy. Which, if you’re older than me, you might actually remember playing. On the Game Boy app, both BurgerTime Deluxe and Kirby’s Dream Land 2 are now available to play. SIDE POCKET has been added to the SNES app, with XEVIOUS added to the NES app. BurgerTime Deluxe is an arcade game that has you cooking up burgers... no surprise there! Your main objective is to complete these burgers through an array of platforming levels, walking across the ingredients we need, and narrowly avoiding the enemy foods we don’t want. Forspoken may have had a budget of over $100,000,000

Image
Forspoken may have had a budget of over $100,000,000, according to the LinkedIn page of a former member of the Luminous Productions team. The game, which was championed as one of the compelling Sony AAA games this year, released to mixed reviews and numerious waves of online critique. Luminous Productions would later be swallowed whole by Square Enix following the game's launch . This information from LinkedIn ( first spotted, screenshotted and archived by Timur22 on Twitter ) is certainly a lofty figure to look at, especially with the context from Square Enix saying Forspoken sales were "lacklustre" . Counter-Strike Skin Sells For $160,000, Or Around 320 PS5 Consoles

Cosmetic skins are fairly commonplace in gaming, and in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive , one floral-themed AK-47 skin just sold for an eye-watering sum. One user paid the equivalent of $160,000 on the Chinese version of Buff, a third-party site for trading CS:GO skins, far above the going rate of other premium Wild Lotus skins on the site which typically sell for around several thousand dollars. Crazy 1m+ Sale just happened 🫣🫣 Was this price justified? pic.twitter.com/H60BtqGUBz — .Nalo (@completelyfucc) March 13, 2023 As for what makes this skin so valuable, that comes down to its overall rarity. As spotted by Kotaku , the Wild Lotus has a Float number that is very low, and basically grades this gun skin as being fresh off the factory assembly line. While $160,000, or enough cash to buy 320 PS5 consoles, is a staggering number for a digital weapon skin, there have been rare instances of these skins selling for even higher. One notable example would be the $1.5 million doll...

“Much more” to be shared about The Last of Us multiplayer spin-off this year

Image
The Last of Us ’ upcoming multiplayer spin-off is a game we’ll “hear much more about” this year, according to TLOU director, Neil Druckmann. Talking about the game in a ‘ spoilercast ’ for HBO’s TV adaptation of The Last of Us Part 1 (thanks, GamesRadar ), Druckmann explains more details on the multiplayer title are coming soon. This spin-off is also Naughty Dog’s “next big title.” “It’s an interesting experience for me because it’s the first The Last of Us game where I’m not a primary writer, I’m not the primary director,” says Druckmann during the spoilercast. “What the team has put together is so cool. It’s very different from what I would do, but that’s part of the exciting thing about it, with other people playing in this world.” Read more from VG247 Latest Articles Feed https://ift.tt/dhFW6zM via IFTTT

First Atlas Fallen Gameplay Trailer Is Full Of Sand And Action

The Surge developer Deck13 has shown off the first gameplay trailer for its upcoming action-RPG Atlas Fallen , which definitely isn't the name of a new Gerard Butler movie. While the first CGI-animated reveal trailer for the game showed off a world of humans, fallen gods, and deadly robots buried beneath the sands of time, there was also a hint of Bloodborne inspiration with transforming weapons that were teased. Atlas Fallen is set in a world where you'll have to liberate mankind from the oppression of cruel gods, and as seen in the gameplay, that involves a lot of hacking, slashing, and deft dodging in a semi-open world where you use the sandy environment to your advantage. Another interesting feature is the option to create a custom playstyle by taking the essence of your enemies and using them to tailor a unique system for your character. The big difference here is that, unlike its work on The Surge series, Deck13 has confirmed that the game isn't a souls-like and l...
