One Destiny 2 nerf has Titan players in tears ahead of Lightfall launch

Image
A devastating nerf ahead of Destiny 2: Lightfall launch day has left Titan players shattered and distraught, with one of their best exotics far weaker. With the other classes remain largely untouched exotic-wise in the hours leading up to Lightfall’s launch, this has seemingly placed Titan’s on the back foot moving through the new content. Here’s hoping some of the new exotics can fill in the void. The exotic in question is the Heart of Inmost Light, which had previously been a staple of PVE builds due to its hugely powerful ability to buff the power and regeneration of your whole kit. So for example, by using your grenade, the barrier you place down afterwards would be stronger. Read more from VG247 Latest Articles Feed https://ift.tt/WDHCpnS via IFTTT

Final Fantasy XIV Initial Failure Taught Producers About Winning Trust

Final Fantasy XVI is the next numbered sequel in the long-running series. It's actually double-duty for producer Naoki Yoshida, who also produces and directs the popular MMO Final Fantasy XIV. That game wasn't always the success it has grown into being, though, and Yoshida said the team learned hard lessons from its failed launch, and it's tried to apply those to its latest project as well. "Because the project had failed and we had failed our audience, we lost the trust of that audience," Yoshida told GameSpot, via translator. "We lost the trust of the media, and the first thing we had to do was regain that trust before we could rebuild the game. We learned that the best way to rebuild that trust is by being honest and straightforward with what we can do, what we can't do, why we can't do it, why we can do it. It's all about that communication, being open and being honest and showing the player and the fanbase and the media that we can be truste...

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's two part DLC will see you travelling around the world

Image
At today's Pokemon Presents, The Pokemon Company announced that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be receiving two pieces of DLC, due out this year. Like with Pokemon Sword and Shield, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's DLC expansions will be a two parter, overall called The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. The first part, called The Teal Mask, is due out this autumn, taking you to a new area that looks like it will have quite traditional Japanese vibes. The second part, The Indigo Disk, looks to be more about studying, bringing you to a new school. In the first part of the DLC, you'll be visiting a new location called Kitakami on a school trip, and will feature a new legendary Pokemon that looks to be themed around a mask. Key art for this part shows off a couple of new characters, a boy and a girl, as well as three other Pokemon, a cat, a bird, and I honestly can't tell what the last one is, but they're all colour coded to the three main starter types, so maybe that'...

Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom DLC Might Be Coming

It appears The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will receive DLC. However, Nintendo has yet to officially announced any post-launch support for the game. The highly anticipated RPG's website contains a line of text at the bottom that states: "**Full version of game required to use DLC. Sold separately." The website, however, does not seem to contain anything annotated with two asterisks. So it appears something is a little off here, and potentially that the website was updated prematurely. In any event, GameSpot has contacted Nintendo in an attempt to get more details. That Tears of the Kingdom will get DLC isn't a surprise. After all, Breath of the Wild welcomed multiple expansions, including The Master Trials and The Champions' Ballad. Nintendo used the same exact language--"full version of game required to use DLC. Sold separately"--on the landing page for Breath of the Wild's expansions. An exciting new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: ...

It’s 2023 and I’ve once again fallen under Destiny 2's spell – and you’re going to, too

Image
Last year, Bungie delivered one of the best FPS campaigns we’ve seen in years with the launch of Destiny: The Witch Queen. Providing some incredible challenge, a renewed focus on layered storytelling, and giving players much more agency in the cosmic sandbox Destiny calls home, The Witch Queen felt like a revival of the service shooter – a statement expansion that set the intent for the months, and years, to come. Now, The Witch Queen is dead. In lore, and in spirit. With one final mission glued onto the end of Season of the Seraph, Bungie planted a bullet in the Hive queen’s crowned head and cleared the stage for the next big bad in Destiny lore: The Witness. Arriving with a fleet of pyramidion ships that have been teased since the launch of Destiny 2 vanilla, The Witness – and the Lightfall expansion at large – feels like a climax to a story Destiny has been telling for nearly a decade. Let’s go back about two weeks. A fortnight ago, Bungie slid a final mission into The Witch Que...

Honestly, you won’t believe the development talent behind Redemption Reapers

Image
Redemption Reapers is out now, promising an exciting tactical RPG with an engaging story and spectacular cast of characters. But as good as the game looks on its own merits, you won’t believe the team behind it. Staff with career credits working on Metal Gear, Fire Emblem, Okami, and more classic games are all present on the credits of Redemption Reapers. As such, what started out as an exciting looking team-based RPG has us eager to learn more. But first, Redemption Reapers is a top-down tactical RPG where you take control of a party of five unique characters from the Ashen Hawk Brigade as they overcome steep odds in their journey. Redemption Reapers takes place in a dark fantasy world, so they’ll have to carve their way through the legions of Mort to protect citizens of the land, all while uncovering the obscured past that has led to a world in disarray. EA is asking fans if they'd like Dead Space 2 or 3 remakes

Image
A recent survey from EA is pretty strongly suggesting that it's up for a remake of Dead Space 2 and 3 - you just have to say that you want them. As of tomorrow (February 27), a whole month will have passed since the Dead Space remake was released, and EA is already asking players how they feel about remakes of the second and third games. Earlier this week, a survey sent out by EA asked a couple of questions that weren't so subtle: "How interested would you be in a similar remake of Dead Space 2?" or "Dead Space 3?" The obvious answer for anyone that's a fan of the series is yes, but do bear in mind that this is just a casual survey, not a contract bound by law. We don't have exact sales figures for the Dead Space remake just yet, but it was the number one in boxed sales during its launch week. On the flip side, it did apparently sell less than half of what The Callisto Protocol did in its first week (an important comparison considering the lat...

Baldur's Gate 3 isn't a PS5 console exclusive because it's also in the works for Xbox

Image
Larian Studios has put Xbox Series X/S users at ease by announcing that Baldur's Gate 3 is in the works for Xbox, as the game is not a platform exclusive. This is according to Larian's community manager, who said the development team has run into a few technical issues with the Xbox Series X/S version, particularly with the split-screen co-op. When the release date for the RPG was announced earlier this week , alongside the PS5 version, it was thought the lack of an Xbox Series X/S announcement meant the game was a console exclusive. Again, that is not the case whatsoever, according to the developer. Read more from VG247 Latest Articles Feed https://ift.tt/vJlw8z7 via IFTTT

Microsoft And Sony "Not Close" To Agreeing To Terms For Call Of Duty Deal - Report

However, it appears Microsoft and Sony are still at odds for a similar deal. According to GI.biz's sources , a deal between the two companies is "not close." Microsoft president Brad Smith said at a meeting with regulators in Brussels this week, "We haven't agreed [to] a deal with Sony, but I hope we will," according to the site . Smith reportedly had a piece of paper in his pocket that contained the terms of the deal to demonstrate that Microsoft is ready to make a deal with Sony. Smith added that Sony can continue to spend time and resources trying to block the deal from happening or it can come to the bargaining table and try to hammer out a deal. As of yet, that reportedly has not happened, though we may never know the nature of extent of talks that happen behind closed doors, off the reco...

Your next Indie obsession drops in a few weeks, and it ain't on Game Pass

Image
Dredge is one of those games that comes along that almost defies conventional description. It’s a trading and exploration sim like Elite, but with a tropical Wind Waker aesthetic, and a page-turning horror story told in the style of a visual novel. It’s all of those things, and yet, nothing you can compare it to really does it justice, because it’s really about the atmosphere. Each component part of Dredge is highly competent in its own right: the bulk of the minute to minute gameplay is concerned with you operating as a jobbing fisherman. You fish, you earn money for ship upgrades, you fish more. Then there are special contracts and sidequests concerned with obtaining items of note from the depths, which could be a rare type of corrupted or mutated fish (more on that later), or a piece of treasure from a sunken galleon – the titular activity coming into play. This all feeds into a fascinating main quest concerning the hunting of artefacts, which gives you cause to venture further ...

Pre-registration is open for Dead by Daylight’s new, revamped mobile game

Image
Behaviour Interactive has revealed that it’ll be opening pre-registration for a new, revamped version of Dead by Daylight for mobile. For those who don't know, Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer asymmetrical horror game that pits four survivors against one killer, and was later brought to mobile in 2020 with the help of NetEase Games. The mobile version of the game was released just three years ago for free, and has certainly been popular, having amassed millions of downloads ever since. That said, there’s no denying that the mobile experience of Dead by Daylight feels lacklustre to that of consoles and PC. Having pumped a few hundred hours into the game on both PC and Nintendo Switch, my personal experience with Dead by Daylight on mobile was poor. The game doesn’t look good, is slow, and pulling off those never-ending chase sequences feels impossible, but I can't say I didn't expect as much. That said, the overhauled version of the mobile game is to launch on March 15 ...

Why Today Could Be A Huge Day In The Microsoft/Activision Case

Today, February 21, could prove to be a pivotal day in Microsoft's ongoing effort to acquire Activision Blizzard amid concerns from regulators. Hogwarts Legacy Doesn't Currently Have Any Plans For DLC

Hogwarts Legacy developer Avalanche Software doesn't currently have any plans to develop DLC for the game, director Alan Tew revealed during a Q&A at a recent IGN event. While this doesn't mean the game won't get extra content further down the track, at the moment it doesn't seem likely. "We've been really heads down bringing [Hogwarts Legacy] to life, so at the moment there are no current plans for DLC," Tew explained. The game still seems set to receive plenty of post-launch support, with an initial patch dropping last week for bug fixes and general performance and stability improvements. PlayStation players will also get to play through an extra mission, with an exclusive Hogsmeade-centric adventure available on the PS4 and PS5. Despite the controversy surrounding author JK Rowling's comments on the trans community, Hogwarts Legacy has seen huge numbers on both Twitch and Steam , even before the game officially released. Monster Hunter remains king, but there's one thing it could learn from Wild Hearts

Image
I think Wild Hearts is a terribly unbalanced game. I think some of the monsters you fight are too bland, and I think some of them are far, far too spicy. I think the gameplay loop is fattier and chewier than it is in genre rival Monster Hunter, and I think the vast majority of fights have more gristle in them than is totally necessary. The game does an atrocious job of educating you about what exactly is hidden away in the recesses of the experience, and the armour/upgrade ecosystem feels carelessly crammed in – with no care or consideration for the end result – and demands too much of you for what it offers in return. And yet, I can’t stop playing it. It feels like eating a sausage; the game is packed with more mechanical viscera than a butcher’s worst bin-end banger, but it’s somehow inexplicably moorish and delicious. You could compare Monster Hunter to some haute cuisine masterclass; an expensive but reliable plate that’s been refined and seasoned to perfection. A specialty from...

Marvel's Avengers' creative director is sorry for how the game turned out

Image
Marvel's Avengers is unfortunately best known for its many issues above all else, and the game's former creative director has offered a brief apology for it. Oh, Marvel's Avengers. Maybe in another universe you're doing great, and everyone loves you, maybe even being more influential than Dark Souls. That's not this universe though, as it's more of a sore spot for those that worked on it. This includes the game's previous creative director, Cezar Virtosu, who recently apologised for how the game ended up. Speaking to Edge Magazine (via GamesRadar ), Virtosu said "It was a challenging production, let's say." Obviously quite a vague statement, but one that still feels quite loaded. Virtosu spoke plenty of his other projects, like Shadow of the Tomb Raider and the upcoming The Lords of the Fallen Reboot, but on the topic of Marvel's Avengers he just said "I apologise for that." Honestly, fair play to him. Read more from VG247...

PS VR2 is brilliant for PlayStation even if it doesn’t sell gangbusters

Image
How well Sony’s PlayStation VR2 sells is a bit of a hot topic. For some people it seems to be absolutely essential that this new headset and controller package sells to a large percentage of the PS5 userbase, as if failure to become mainstream signifies that the whole thing is a failure. I don’t think that’s true at all. If you are a person that makes buying choices based on careful consideration of all options, and not someone who buys on a whim or some kind of bizarre brand loyalty based on zero actual sense (we’ve all done it, to be fair), you’d probably look at a new console purchase similarly. What are the pros and cons of each? What, in the end, is the best option for you, long term? You might well decide that the Switch, despite being less powerful (by a considerable amount), is fully portable, has arguably the best exclusive games, and offers a fairly reasonable subscription service that provides access to loads of classic games. That’s a decent sell. Read more from VG...

Watch out, a Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom art book has leaked online

Image
If you're wanting to play The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom spoiler free, be careful, as an art book has leaked. The art book, which features 200 pages of character and location designs, was shared to Reddit yesterday cataloguing what looks to be the entire thing. Don't worry about spoilers here, we're not going to share any of the art. Thankfully, there doesn't appear to be any big story or gameplay details shared in the book, so even if you do come across something it probably won't ruin the experience for you. But it is a surprising leak nonetheless, particularly because it isn't even clear how it leaked so far in advance. You won't find confirmation of time travel, a playable Zelda, or if you play as more than one version of Link, details of which Nintendo is keeping incredibly close to its chest. These, amongst other theories, are some of the more pressing details that fans are desperate to learn about, and they'll have to stay that way...

MultiVersus' player count isn't doing so hot, with fans unhappy at infrequent updates

Image
MultiVersus , the Warner Bros. IP-laden Smash-like game doesn't seem to be doing so hot, as its player count is averaging in the four figures. As spotted by Polygon , if you head to MultiVersus' SteamDB , which tracks things like how many players are in-game right now, as well as player peaks. Only problem for MultiVersus, is that it hasn't had a player count higher than the four figures since the middle of September. At the time of writing, the game's 24-hour peak is currently sitting at a surprisingly low 1,223 players, a far cry from the 100,000 it had when the open beta launched . Important to note is that SteamDB only tracks the PC version of the game, as it uses data pulled from Steam, something it can't do for the console platforms MultiVersus is also on, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Whether MultiVersus has that much of a higher player count on console than it does on PC is impossible to know, but overall the picture looks a little grim. Read ...

Miyamoto would you like you to stop calling him the Spielberg of video games

Image
If you're someone who's compared iconic game designer Shigeru Miyamoto to equally iconic film director Steven Spielberg, stop it, he doesn't like it. For some reason, everybody likes to compare every single aspect of video games to film, even if it doesn't make any sense. A classic one for Miyamoto in particular is the comparison to Spielberg, which goes all the way back to 1996 . But in a recent interview with GameSpot , it turns out that the eclectic father of Mario (and possible mother of Bowser Jr.) doesn't want people to make that comparison (thanks, GamesRadar ). "As you said, I've also been called the Spielberg of the game world," Miyamoto said to GameSpot, continuing on to say, "but I actually don't like that. I'm Miyamoto. Miyamoto is Miyamoto and Nintendo is Nintendo. However, I do feel very honoured to be compared with Disney. But with that said, rather than comparing Nintendo to Disney, I feel that Disney to some extent, esp...

Resident Evil 4 Remake devs wanted to make another chainsaw controller, but didn't have enough time

Image
Remember that chainsaw shaped controller you could play Resident Evil 4 with? Turns out the remake devs wanted to make another one. Resident Evil 4 Remake is out really soon, March 24 in fact, and obviously plenty of fans are excited to re-experience an all-time classic. There's one thing missing though: the limited edition chainsaw controller that you could actually use on your PS2. It's an incredible relic of a bygone era, one that we all miss dearly, and it turns out that the developers behind the remake actually wanted to make a new one, but didn't have the time to do it in the end. Game Informer recently spoke with Resident Evil 2 Remake director Yasuhiro Ampo and Resident Evil 4 Remake producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi about a whole bunch of things, but obviously the thing we all care most about is the chainsaw controller (thanks, GamesRadar ). "We wanted to do one, but we are already putting everything we have into development of the game," Hirabayashi sa...

E3 is still on, despite what Ubisoft suggested

Image
As part of Ubisoft's recent investors call, CEO Yves Guillemot did confirm the company would be at E3, but didn't seem entirely confident the event will even take place. Last year the ESA and new owner of E3 ReedPop confirmed that E3 would be returning as an in-person show in 2023 , to which everyone said, "yeah, sure," considering the event was cancelled in 2022. It's still technically on track to take place, but as reported by IGN , when asked about if Ubisoft would be at the event during the company's Q3 2022-23 investors call , Guillemot made it sound like at the very least he isn't entirely sure if the event will happen or not. "If E3 happens, we will be there and we will have a lot of things to show," said the CEO, which could just be an awkward way of phrasing things, or could be a sign of a lack of confidence in the event. The first trailer for the Tetris movie looks like good, wild fun

Image
The first trailer for the Tetris movie is here, providing a look at the genuinely wild story behind the origin of Tetris. When I first heard there was going to be a Tetris movie I thought, "video game adaptations have gone too far." Obviously turning the game into a film just isn't really possible, but turning the story behind how Tetris became the sensation it went on to be is. That's exactly what Tetris, the Apple TV+ exclusive film is all about, following the events that unfolded between Henk Rogers, the man that "risked his life to outsmart the KGB and turn Tetris into a worldwide sensation," and Alexey Pajitnov, Tetris' creator. The film, due out March 31, stars Kingsman's Taron Egerton as Rogers, and Nikita Efremov as Pajitnov. Set in 1988, it shows Rogers discovering Tetris, and in turn him supposedly risking his life travelling to the Soviet Union (as it was known at the time). Honestly, I didn't expect a film like this to look as goo...

Genshin Impact update 3.5 brings the Windblume Festival just in time for spring

Image
MiHoYo has officially revealed Genshin Impact update 3.5, adding in two more playable characters, limited time mini-games, and more. Genshin Impact's next update, scheduled March 1 but technically available February 28 for a majority of Western players, is bringing the heat with Dehya, a pyro character who's been in the game as an NPC in version 3.0. She's the five-star character for this update, able to absorb damage for on-field teammates by placing a fiery field that also damages enemies. She's joined by the four-star Mika, touted specifically as a support character for Eula, who can help teammates regain HP with his elemental burst. Alongside Dehya, Cyno will be added as a rerun, the second half of the patch also adding in reruns for Ayaka and Shenhe, the latter's first rerun. Don't worry too much about pulling Dehya though, as you'll be able to get her from the standard banner later on. Read more from VG247 Latest Articles Feed https://ift.tt/i...

Apex Legend just hit a new all-time high player count thanks to Team Deathmatch

Image
Apex Legends has just hit a new all-time-high for concurrent players, beating its previous record by 100,000 players. As spotted by Kotaku , Apex Legends seems to be doing very well for itself. That's because, as recorded by SteamDB , the battle royale has reached a massive new peak of players all active in the game simultaneously, currently sitting at a peak of 624,473 players (it was 610,433 at the time of Kotaku's report, so obviously it went even higher than first spotted). That's an increase of more than 100,000, as the game's previous record was roughly 510,000, which the game hit last August . A big part of the reasoning behind the player count soaring so high is the recent introduction of the game's 16th season, Revelry . In particular, players seem to be very happy about the addition of a new mode that many have wanted for a long time: Team Deathmatch . A classic mode that brings players back into the fray constantly, team deathmatch replaced the slight...

E3 2023 Is Definitely Still Happening

E3 2023 is still going ahead, even though Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are reportedly skipping the showcase and Ubisoft's top boss seemingly isn't sure. The president of E3's new organizer has confirmed that E3 2023 is "full speed ahead" and on track to take place this June as scheduled. Lance Fensterman told The Verge : "E3 is full speed ahead and we are pleased with the progress and engagement from the community. As we have confirmed exhibitors we are eager to share more as details get cemented and participants ready their own detailed plans." Fensterman went on to say that with ReedPop's other events, the company doesn't usually announce participants until closer to kickoff. However, the executive told The Verge that the company "will adjust our style to the E3 way as we can." This might suggest that ReedPop is gearing up to announce participants relatively soon, which tracks with Fensterman's other assertion that ReedPop wil...

Destiny 2: Lightfall Will Let You Pay To Skip The Campaign

One of the ways that Bungie keeps its lights on while developing Destiny 2, which has a free-to-play model mixed in with premium add-on content, is through the use of Character Boosts. Currently, you can spend 100 Silver to gain a rank on the season pass track and unlock rewards, but with Lightfall, there'll be a few extra options available. Starting with this year's expansion, players will see one of two types of boosts on their character screen depending on their progress. The Lightfall Character Boost appears when you hit the soft Power cap with a character but haven't completed the campaign yet, and provides the selected character with a set of high Power level gear. This won't allow you to skip the campaign according to Bungie , but the second option will let you pay to fast-forward through the new narrative content. As its title implies, the Lightfall Campaign Skip Boost appears after you complete the Lightfall campaign and allows you to skip the new storyline w...
