Reed Hastings, the streaming service's co-founder and co-CEO, spoke at the New York Times Dealbook conference today and reinforced the company's expansion into video games. Hastings apparently was asked about Netflix looking into live sports. He replied, "Talk to us after we're a big leader in games. We have a lot of investment to do in games." Netflix has been making all sorts of moves in the gaming space recently. The streaming service is hiring for a "brand-new AAA PC game," for instance. That's on top of building a new studio from scratch in Finland. And the company has even teased rolling out a gaming streaming service . As of October, Netflix has 55 games in development . The popular Uncharted video game series, known for taking fans on a grand adventure with twists and turns and lots of action, is now becoming a roller coaster. Sony Pictures has announced a deal with Spain's largest theme park PortAventura World to create the first roller coaster based on the franchise. This ride is specifically themed around the movie starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. The ride is expected to open in the first half of 2023 and will take inspiration from the "globe-trotting adventure of the film." The theme park company said riders can look forward to a "thrilling and immersive experience in search of one of the world's greatest treasures." This will be a "dark ride" coaster, which means it will be an indoor ride. The ride, which hasn't been given a name as of yet, will be located in the Far West zone of PortAventura World. The WWE and UFC star will become a Legendary Champion in Plarium's free-to-play mobile and PC title starting today, November 30, through February 28. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is right around the corner, and with that comes trailers and sneak peeks at what to expect. While we were privy to our first teaser trailer back in October, which showcased Chris Pratt’s Mario and Jack Black’s Bowser (as well as a singing Toad ), Nintendo and Illumination has since revealed a second trailer for the movie. Throughout the trailer, there’s a lot to unpack. Of course, we see more of the delightful albeit intimidating Bowser, hear more of Chris Pratt’s abysmal Mario voice, and we witness Toad being as adorable as can be. Microsoft's bid to purchase Activision Blizzard continues to push ahead. Reuters reports that Serbia has now cleared the deal "unconditionally." This follows similar approvals in places like Brazil and Saudi Arabia. The Reuters report had no further information on the terms of the approval by Serbia. Some games are just nice. Something you can stick on your Steam Deck or Switch and just chill out with for a while. One such game, which also happens to be a day one release on Xbox Game Pass for consoles and PC, is Soccer Story . Given that we’re in peak football season at the moment, I gave it a whirl and came away rather impressed with its mixture of RPG, football, and puzzle gameplay. Soccer Story is full of knowing one-liners and little in-jokes, and the game’s entire premise is just as out-there. Football has been banned, meaning no one can just pick up a ball and kick it. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has plenty of issues, mainly in the realm of performance. We’ve witnessed Pokemon fall through the floor in battle, NPCs that function at around 5FPS, and a host of other amusing glitches and bugs. It’s not great, but with the gameplay throughout Scarlet and Violet being among some of the best we’ve seen in recent years, these performance issues are easy enough to brush off when you’re having a good time. That said, players who have spent time putting together powerful teams of Pokemon and have advanced past the end-game may find themselves spending more and more time in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Battle Stadium . As per the report, CDPR states that The Witcher Remake is a “story-driven, single player open-world RPG - a modern reimagining of 2007’s The Witcher.” This is a slight update on what we first learnt when The Witcher Remake was announced. I have a soft spot in my heart for a game with a good twist. A narrative switcheroo, that drags you further into the story than you’d otherwise care to go. As Microsoft faces scrutiny from regulators around the world regarding its attempted acquisition of Activision Blizzard, it may encounter one of its most significant hurdles yet in the United States. The Federal Trade Commission is "likely" to file an antitrust lawsuit over the proposed deal, according to a new report from Politico . A lawsuit is said not to be a guarantee as of yet, as the FTC's commissioners have not voted on such a move and may first look to meet with lawyers from Microsoft and Activision Blizzard. An FTC investigation is ongoing but much of it is completed, and a lawsuit could come in December. The FTC declined to comment on the possibility. When it comes to new characters, Disney Dreamlight Valley has now announced its second major content update, and who’s arriving alongside it. During the game's first major update, we saw The Lion King’s antagonist, Scar, invited into Dreamlight Valley. Pokemon Go 's next major event, Astral Eclipse, starts this week on November 23, bringing with it Cosmog's final branching evolution into either Solgaleo or Lunala. The event will see cosmic Pokemon spawning more often in the wild, as well as Ultra Beasts appearing in raids and research tasks, with the Ultra Beast Arrival event on November 27. The Astral Eclipse event starts at 10 AM in trainers local time on November 23, and ends on November 28 at 8 PM, making it the last major event of the Season of Light. Once the event ends, trainers who have amassed 100 Cosmog candy will be able to evolve their Cosmoem into either Sunne Pokemon Solgaleo or Moone Pokemon Lunala. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet 's first week of release has been plagued with bugs, glitches and performance issues--some frustrating, some fun , and others proving useful to creative players. Two new exploits have been discovered that maximize a player's chance of encountering shiny Pokemon--one that allows you to duplicate a shiny spawn, another that increases the chances of a shiny spawning. The first, as picked up by Video Games Chronicle , was discovered by YouTuber Austin John Plays , and allows players to capture the same shiny Pokemon multiple times when performed correctly. To work, it has to be in an area near an open town, or another area that doesn't require a loading screen to enter. If players find and catch a shiny, or another Pokemon they want to duplicate, in an area matching this description, they can then walk towards the town, and at the point where the town's name comes up on screen, save and restart the game. Onoma Studios, previously known as Square Enix Montreal, is shutting down this week and some of its mobile titles will be going with it. Ahead of the studio's last day on November 24, Onoma announced that Deus Ex Go, Hitman Sniper: The Shadows, Arena Battle Champions, and Space Invaders: Hidden Heroes will be shutting down for good on January 4. The games will be taken off the App Store and Google Play Store as of December 1, and players who already have them downloaded will be able to continue playing until the games shut down for good on January 4. Activision has announced that the launch of Warzone 2 last week has been very successful. The free-to-play game, built on Modern Warfare 2's new engine, gameplay systems, and general mechanics, has attracted over 25 million players in just five days. The publisher announced the milestone today, making Warzone 2 amongst the biggest launches ever in Call of Duty history. The original Warzone had 6 million players on its first day , and upped it to 15 million just two days later. It's not clear how these figures compare to Warzone 2's, but it's interesting that Activision picked five days as its new barometer. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet finally launched just last week, and it’s safe to say that the game is not meeting everyone’s expectations. While many of us have been anticipating the release, dying to start catching ‘mons again in a truly open-world environment, others have had their reservations, and for good reason. With that in mind, it comes as little to no surprise that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet now reigns as Metacritic’s lowest-rated mainline game for Pokémon. It currently sits at a Metascore of 76 , while other mainline titles do not dip below a score of 80. For example, Sword and Shield has a Metascore of 80, while Sun and Moon sit at 87, and so forth. Nintendo Switch Sports is getting its first new sport since the game released in April this year--golf. With 21 holes taken from previous Wii Sports title, the free update will let fans play a casual game of golf with friends online or offline, as well as a competitive knock-out mode called Survival Golf. The golf update for Nintendo Swift Sports will be free for all players who already own the game, dropping on November 28. While the update's 21 holes are taken from previous games in the Wii Sports series--of which Nintendo Switch Sports is the first not to have "Wii" in the title--the eight-player online Survival Golf mode is brand new. We all know that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have some performance issues, but that hasn't stopped the pair of games being the biggest UK physical launch this year. Yeah, alright, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are… less than perfect. Frame rate issues a plenty, limited clothing options, this guy . None of that matters in a capitalistic world though, because as reported by GamesIndustry.biz , the ninth generation of games are the top sellers in terms of physical copies sold on launch in the UK. Prior to the launch of Scarlet and Violet, FIFA 23 was the biggest boxed game launch, but the two Pokémon games are up by 4% in comparison. They're also the second biggest launch for the entirety of the series, only behind Pokémon Sun and Moon on the 3DS. A recent bug that has given Tracer a major buff in Overwatch 2 was expected to have the character disabled, but Blizzard says that won't be the case. The bug in question removes any damage drop-off when she shoots at an opponent player under 20 metres. Normally the amount of damage you do scales based on how close or far away you are, but this bug means that as long as you're within 20 metres, you're essentially doing the maximum amount of damage, presuming that your aim is good. It's generally been expected that Tracer would be disabled as a result, but as spotted by PCGamesN , a comment from the game's director Aaron Keller on a Reddit post about the bug has explained she won't be taken out of the game. God of War Ragnarok features a sidequest that is really an incredibly touching tribute to Jake Snipes, a developer that worked on the game who passed away in 2020. Across the Realms is said sidequest, one you might discover on your playthrough of the game, where you're tasked with finding four ingredients across the four realms. But as shared by fellow developer Sam Handrick, the sidequest was made in memory of Snipes, his partner and co-worker. "There's something in God of War Ragnarok which is the most special to me. I got to pitch it and the team made it into everything I could have hoped," wrote Handrick on Twitter. "I had hoped to wait for some time to talk about it but want to share it now, just in case. It sounds like both the Dead or Alive and the Ninja Gaiden series are on track to receive respective reboots. We haven't had a new entry in either series for a number of years, but according to a recent report from Ruliweb (thanks, VGC ), that soon might change. The report shared that Team Ninja president Fumihiko Yasuda spoke during a panel at the G-Star conference in Busan, where he said he was working to bring fans news as soon as he could. Interestingly, a slide at the end of the panel showed a pair of images showing Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive along with the headline "The future of Team Ninja - Reboot of popular series," in Japanese. Obviously this doesn't outright confirm brand new games are coming right around the corner, though it does very strongly suggest that we can expect something in the future. Blizzard has started testing audio transcription in Overwatch 2 in an effort to fight back against verbal abuse in the game's voice chat. In the most recent patch notes for Overwatch 2, Blizzard confirmed that it has begun to roll out its audio transcription feature as a part of its Defence Matrix initiative (thanks, Eurogamer ). The feature is only available for PC players in select countries at the moment, so if you're not seeing it that will be why. This feature essentially uses audio transcriptions of the voice chat that allows Blizzard to "analyse a transcript from a temporary voice chat recording of a reported player. Players will now see a notification when entering voice chat for the first time during a play session indicating that voice chat may be recorded." The team behind the Splinter Cell Remake has teased the project a bit by discussing some of the technical changes to expect, and showed a bit of concept art. According to technical director Christian Carriere, some of the enhancements to expect are advanced AI which will male special forces soldiers "breach differently or enter rooms differently" to than regular security personnel would. The team is also making improvements to Sam Fisher's "cat-and-mouse" with enemies.
