Watch Gabe Newell Personally Hand-Deliver Steam Decks

Valve's Steam Deck console is out now, and some of the first units were personally delivered by none other than Valve founder and billionaire Gabe Newell. In a fun little video, we get to see Newell walking through neighborhoods near Valve's headquarters in Bellevue, Washington, hand-delivering units to fans. Some people are excited, some are confused, and some didn't seem to recognize him at all. "Hi, I'm Gabe Newell. I'm just wandering around your neighborhood," Newell says in the video. Newell delivered newspapers and telegrams for Western Union when he was younger, so he's got experience going door-to-door with packages in this way. A common theme in the video is Newell asking people to share their honest opinions with him and Valve about Steam Deck. He gives out his work email to anyone who wants it, and says he reads every email he receives because that's a good way to connect with fans and stay grounded. "I get anywhere from several...

Elden Ring Director Hidetaka Miyazaki Comments On Game Difficulty

From Software's Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game director of the recently released Elden Ring , has weighed in on the discussion surrounding the game's difficulty. Speaking to The New Yorker , Miyazaki said he feels apologetic to those who are hesitant to play From Software's games due to their difficulty, but maintained that From Software is not planning to change anything because the feeling of overcoming hardship is the studio's "identity." "I do feel apologetic toward anyone who feels there's just too much to overcome in my games," Miyazaki said. "I just want as many players as possible to experience the joy that comes from overcoming hardship." He added: "We are always looking to improve, but, in our games specifically, hardship is what gives meaning to the experience. So it's not something we're willing to abandon at the moment. It's our identity." In Elden Ring, and other From Software games, you die a lot. M...

Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn Of Ragnarok Will Reference The Series At Large, Not Just Valhalla

Eivor is set to take a backseat in Assassin's Creed Valhalla 's next expansion, Dawn of Ragnarök , which focuses on Havi/Odin and their attempts to save their son, Baldr, from the fire giant Surtr. The expansion will host secrets that reference the rest of the Assassin's Creed franchise, which Ubisoft Montreal predicts will appeal to long-time Assassin's Creed fans. "We have planted small hints, in the forms of metaphors, likenesses, and references for the hardcore fans of the Assassin's Creed lore at large," Dawn of Ragnarök game director Georgi Popov told GameSpot. "We firmly believe that mystery is best when left to the imagination--so it will be up to the players to interpret and analyze those clues and make the connections to the Isu age." Spoilers for Assassin's Creed Valhalla follow. Popov further clarified that there will be no present-day segments in Dawn of Ragnarök. So we're unlikely to glean anything new about current moder...

Rainbow Six Siege Year 7, Season 1 Patch Notes Revealed

Ubisoft Montreal has released the full patch notes for Rainbow Six Siege Year 7, Season 1. The seventh year of Siege kicks off with new defender operator Azami joining the fray, while also introducing changes to Goyo, a brand-new Team Deathmatch playlist, and a whole lot more. Year 7, Season 1 also makes it required for all players to link a phone number to their Ubisoft account in order to participate in Ranked. "This security measure is intended to help slow cheater re-entry after being banned, as well as curb smurfing," Ubisoft Montreal writes in the season patch notes. As with all new seasons, older operators are being discounted. So if you're jumping back into Siege at the start of Year 7, you can take this opportunity to catch up on operators you may have missed out on. Mozzie and Gridlock are dropping to 10,000 Renown or 240 R6 Credits each (about $2 USD); Oryx and Iana are dropping to 15,000 Renown or 360 R6 Credits (about $3); and Flores is dropping to 20,00...

In terms of game-specific updates, there are more than 100 in total, spread across GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas. In essence, each game--and the package overall--should be in a better state now. This is just the latest massive update for The Definitive Edition, which had a very rocky launch in 2021. A previous update also addressed more than 100 issues . Despite the troubled start, The Definitive Edition is believed to have sold around 10 million copies and has been labeled a great success by management. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick frankly acknowledged that the game had "some quality issues." "I think we were all a bit ...

Smash Bros. Dropped From Evo 2022

The organizers of the Evo tournament have announced that Super Smash Bros. will not be part of the upcoming Evo 2022 tournament in March because Nintendo apparently shut it down. In a statement, Evo said, "Since 2007, we've seen historic Super Smash Bros. moments created at Evo's events. We are saddened that Nintendo has chosen not to continue that legacy with us this year." It added: "In the future, we hope to once again celebrate the Super Smash Bros. community alongside them." Even so, Evo 2022 is still going ahead, as a live, in-person event this year in Las Vegas. It's scheduled for March 8, starting at 5 PM PT. The full lineup of games is yet to be confirmed. pic.twitter.com/7YEX1ZgG4W — EVO (@EVO) February 26, 2022 Sony announced in March 2021 that it was buying Evo , and Nintendo confirmed plans to work with Panda Global for its own Smash tournaments. Gabe Newell Open To Working With Microsoft To Bring Game Pass To Steam

Valve boss Gabe Newell has commented on the possibility of bringing Microsoft's Game Pass service to Steam, saying there is a chance. Speaking to PC Gamer, Newell said Valve is unlikely to create a similar service of its own--"Steam Pass," for example--but working with Microsoft to add Game Pass to Steam might be something Valve would consider. "I don't think it's something that we think we need to do ourselves, building a subscription service at this time," Newell said. "But for their customers it's clearly a popular option, and we'd be more than happy to work with them to get that on Steam." Valve has a history of supporting subscription programs on Steam, with EA's own EA Play offering arriving on Steam back in 2020. Game Pass is Microsoft's subscription-based offering that gets subscribers access to a growing catalog of games for one price. There is Game Pass for PC titles and Xbox Game Pass for console games. Elden Ring Margit The Fell Omen Guide - Recommended Level And How To Beat The First Boss

The Margit boss battle in Elden Ring is your first major test. The staff-wielding guardian of Stormveil Castle might not be a demigod, but he poses a substantial threat--much more so than during the closed network test, when FromSoftware blessed the Tarnished with high health and abilities. It’s a challenging fight, but patience and some careful preparation go a long way in making it more manageable. What to know before fighting Margit The Fell Omen Elden Ring leads you to Margit almost as soon as you step foot in The Lands Between, but you’re not meant to fight him right away . You’ll want to level up your primary stats--the ones corresponding with your weapon or magic of choice--and work on enhancing your weapon several times. Ideally, your dominant weapon should be +3 or higher before challenging Margit, so plan on plundering some Smithing Stones from the Limgrave Tunnels and visiting the blacksmith. Spirit Summons , while not essential, are a helpful tool if only to keep Margi...

Elden Ring Is Here, Demonstrating Again That It Should Be Easier To Try Before You Buy

Elden Ring is out now, the latest in the critically acclaimed but often esoteric Soulsborne genre. The notoriously challenging From Software games tend to be love-them-or-hate-them affairs, but several notable voices in games say this one is more approachable and less off-putting, and deserves a chance even from those who have struggled to get into Soulsbornes before. As someone who fits that exact definition, I would love to try Elden Ring and see if this is finally the game where it clicks, but there's just no simple, consistent way for players to sample a game--Elden Ring or otherwise--that they may end up wishing they hadn't purchased. It's time for that to change, and platforms themselves should be leading the way. Again, this isn't a problem unique to Elden Ring, but the game serves as a useful example. More than most games, Elden Ring is likely to stymie some players, feeling impenetrable from the outset. Some will push through that initial frustration and find ...

PlayStation Spartacus Subscription Game Service Pricing Details Revealed In Report

In response to Microsoft's resounding success with its games subscription service Xbox Game Pass, Sony is reportedly buffing up its own service, PlayStation Now, with even more games and multiple tier options. After being revealed by Bloomberg late last year, this new project--internally codenamed Spartacus--seems to be getting closer to completion, as reports regarding its pricing and contents have now begun to surface. According to a recent report by VentureBeat , PlayStation Spartacus will offer users three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. However, according to the report, these names are subject to change prior to the service launching. The first tier on the plan, Essential, will supposedly run players $10 USD and offers up a small selection of games each month, not unlike PlayStation Plus in its current state. The Extra tier then starts at $13 USD, and comes not only with these "Essential" monthly games, but access to a larger catalog of PlayStation titles si...

Nintendo Buys Game Developer It's Worked With For Almost 40 Years

2022 continues to be a big year for mergers and acquisitions in video games, and now Nintendo is taking part. The company has announced it is buying its longtime collaborator SRD Co. Ltd. You may not know SRD by name, but the company has been working with Nintendo for almost 40 years . In a major development, SRD came up with the idea for Mario to be able to jump higher in the original Super Mario Bros. Most recently, SRD worked on Game Builder Garage, Ring Fit Adventure, and 1-2 Switch with Nintendo. Nintendo is buying 100% of the company's outstanding shares for an undisclosed fee. SRD was founded in January 1979 and has worked with Nintendo since then on a multitude of games. Nintendo said buying SRD will help "strengthen the management base" of SRD and to help "secure the availability of software development resources for Nintendo." The Mario maker also said buying SRD will help in "facilitating an anticipated improvement in software development ef...

It looks like March 2022's Games With Gold lineup for Xbox has been leaked early. As is becoming tradition, the reported leak stems from user billbil-kun on Dealabs . The best SD card deals for your Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck and everything else

Image
One of the best accessories to come by in recent years is the micro SD card. These tiny memory cards can reach up to a terabyte or two in capacity, which is enough for most people's whole gaming library. Downloads from Nintendo's eShop are a really convenient way to save time by storing games directly onto a memory card. And with only 32GB of internal storage (or 64GB if you're lucky enough to have bagged an OLED Switch), you're going to be needing the extra space for the games and DLC you'll purchase. For example, Animal Crossing New Horizons takes up around 7GB of storage, whereas Metroid Dread is a little smaller at 4.5GB. And if you're lucky to be getting your hands on a Steam Deck soon, with the size of PC games almost always in the tens of gigabytes, you'll also certainly be in need of an SD card. Here are some of the best deals right now on micro SD cards. Read more from VG247 Latest Articles Feed https://ift.tt/RyGvIej via IFTTT

A Record Number Of Games Were Funded Through Kickstarter In 2021

Video games had a successful year on Kickstarter in 2021, new data shows, with a record total of 441 games hitting their funding goals. The data comes from Ico Partners, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz , which pointed out that this record has now been broken two years in a row. The number of video games successfully funded on Kickstarter has only topped 400 two other times--first in 2014, when 413 games were funded, and then in 2020 with 429 successful projects. While 2021 was a record-breaking year in terms of the number of projects successfully funded, it saw a small drop in the overall amount of funds raised for video games, from $26 million in 2020 to $24 million in 2021. Neither comes close to video games' highest-earning year on Kickstarter, which saw a total of $56 million raised across 395 projects back in 2013. Those numbers were helped along by a number of high-profile projects including Torment: Tides of Numenera and Mighty No. 9 . Tabletop games, which tend to be m...

EA CEO Reportedly Calls FIFA Brand An "Impediment" To Its Football Games

After officially suggesting last year that it could part ways with the FIFA name , EA CEO Andrew Wilson has said more about the potential split in an internal meeting. In comments obtained by Video Games Chronicle , Wilson said that EA's popular football games could actually be better off without its long-term FIFA partnership. EA has licenced the FIFA name for almost 30 years and is now at the end of its latest 10-year naming deal, which expires at the end of 2022 after the Qatar World Cup. While EA's next game will still likely release as FIFA 23, any subsequent games could release under a new name should EA choose not to renew the license. Late last year, EA expressed that it may decide to no longer use the FIFA name , while FIFA announced that it would be looking to end its exclusive arrangement with EA , and would be reaching out to more companies in the gaming space. "I would argue--and this may be a little biased--that the FIFA brand has more meaning as a video g...

No Call Of Duty In 2023 Could Have A Major, Lasting Impact On Gaming, Analyst Says

It was recently reported that 2023's Call of Duty game, which has not been officially announced, will not in fact launch that year and is now coming in 2024 . NPD analyst Mat Piscatella said on social media that he believes this would be a "huge blow" to the retail environment and the premium games market overall. Sharing his thoughts on Twitter , Piscatella said the Call of Duty franchise skipping a yearly release in 2023 would help accelerate the push to live-service games and away from upfront sales of "premium" releases. "This would be a huge blow to retail, and to the premium gaming segment as a whole. Would also accelerate the shift away from premium releases where consumers purchase upfront, to games supported by sales of DLC/MTX. Not sure that acceleration could be slowed afterwards," Piscatella said. "Subscription spending growth already turning exponential, and recurring spending already becoming majority of spend on consoles. This wo...

Horizon Forbidden West Patch update 1.05 fixes graphics issues and more - full PS5/PS4 patch notes

Image
Horizon Forbidden West launched last week, and thought the game hit the shelves alongside some incredible reviews and a generally strong critical consensus , there were still some issues with the title on both PS4 and PS5 platforms. The most egregious of these issues came in the form of progression blocks in some missions (with the most infamous appearing during the Reach for the Stars mission, where an auto-save bug could prevent you from progressing close to the beginning of the game). In a new patch that's been pushed out overnight, though, Guerrilla has announced that a lot of thesde issues have been addressed. Better yet, some of the persistent graphical bugs that weren't tackled in the Day One patch have also been addressed. Read more from VG247 Latest Articles Feed https://ift.tt/xh0OF2S via IFTTT

Call Of Duty 2023 Delayed To 2024 According To Report

2023's Call of Duty game may be delayed to the following year. This would mark the first time since 2004 that a year would pass without a new mainline Call of Duty game, which has gotten new entries on an annual basis since 2005's Call of Duty 2. As reported by Bloomberg , Activision Blizzard is delaying 2023's Call of Duty in hopes of further polishing the game. Seeing as Microsoft has announced its intention to continue developing Activision franchises for competing console platforms , that likely means we'll see this new Call of Duty launch for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. The report also says that Activision Blizzard is pushing this new Call of Duty's release following a recent game failing to meet expectations. No exact game is listed but both Vanguard and Warzone underperformed in 2021 in comparison to Black Ops Cold War and Warzone in 2020, so it's likely in reference to one of those. According to the report, Treyarch will assist in developing an upc...
